Pics.io Customer Stories: Eagle County Government

Organization’s name: Eagle County
Headquarters: Colorado, US

Eagle County Government provides essential services and initiatives for enhancing the quality of life for its residents. As a comprehensive local government authority, its responsibilities span across public safety, infrastructure maintenance, environmental stewardship, public health, and socio-economic support systems, among others.

Eagle County Government places a high priority on supporting its workforce, creating a resilient economy, and protecting regional mountain ecosystems. The government is also tasked with providing a host of core services to both residents and visitors.

Today we talked to Stephanie Weinberger, a Digital Media Designer with the Eagle County Communications Department about her experience with Pics.io digital asset management (DAM). We’re talking about how the local government organization can benefit from a DAM system on a daily basis.

  • Could you tell me about your organization?

We have a small communications department within Eagle County government. There's only 7 of us. And those 7 people use the Pics.io account. I'm the manager of the main Pics.io account.

Everyone else has access to browse through the library, download what they need, and share what they need with other departments. We have 550 people in our county government and we share pictures with them occasionally. We mostly send images via email because it’s often only 1-2 photos that need to be shared. I also share images within our small department. Someone can ask me where some image is and then I can just copy a URL (sharing link) in Pics.io and send it over to them. That's really nice, which I enjoy.

💡
In Pics.io DAM, one can share digital assets via websites - customizable portals. All you need to do is share a link to such a website with a receiver, and they will have access to all the files. It's possible to set up password protection, expiration dates, and other user permissions for websites.
  • What are you responsible for?

I'm a graphic designer and manage the website. I do print design. I do some photo shoots here occasionally and document what's going on around our county.

"So that was where your product really shined for us anyway - we could continue using Google for storage".

  • What problem did you solve with the DAM system? What was the challenge you faced?

Our organization is a Google-based organization - we do everything in Google. All of our files are Google-based. My predecessor was using Google Photos to organize photos. But there are always permissions problems when you want to share images. Honestly, being able to view them is really complicated.

So we were looking for something else, but we didn't want to have to store the images outside of Google. We didn't want to have to move all of these images over to another platform that had another server. That didn't really make sense for us. So that was where your product really shined for us anyway - we could continue using Google for storage.

💡
Pics.io DAM integrates with Google Drive and Amazon S3, so you don't have to move your files anywhere. However, we also offer our own storage if needed.
  • Could you tell me what your current workflow looks like now that you’ve implemented Pics.io?

I've been able to organize the photos really easily. And everyone likes the tagging system. I think that's really easy for people to search for images. They might need a photo of a fire truck, they can look up the word “fire”, and then see everything that’s associated with that. That's been super helpful.

Everybody obviously organizes the images that they import a little bit differently. Although I'm definitely the primary uploader of images. But occasionally other people in our department do upload images as well.

"Pics.io approximately saves us half an hour per image. I like the interface in Pics.io DAM. I think it's easy to navigate. I really like this product. There was nothing in place before I got here. Adopting Pics.io digital asset management has been a big step in the right direction for us. So thank you!"

  • Do you work with any freelancers or contractors?

Yes. In fact, that's primarily what the inboxes have been useful for. Our contractors just upload their images for us through inboxes. That's been very helpful.

  • How many websites and inboxes do you use in total?

I think we only have 1 or 2 inboxes and maybe 10 websites.

  • How do you use images stored in Pics.io DAM?

We use them for social media, the Eagle County website, and printed materials.

  • Could you tell me what are the advantages of the DAM system for you?

Just the sharing ability is essential and everyone can see the same things that I'm seeing. We also love that Pics.io DAM is web-based and urgent.

  • Can you estimate how much time Pics.io saves you monthly or weekly?

If I was looking for a specific image I can find it much quicker using Pics.io. So it approximately saves us half an hour per image. Otherwise, you wouldn't be able to see all the images all at once in the same way. I like the interface in Pics.io DAM. I think it's easy to navigate. I really like this product. There was nothing in place before I got here. And adopting Pics.io digital asset management has been a big step in the right direction for us. So thank you!

  • Thank you so much for the interview!
